Hello, my name is Anna and I have worked with 5/5 since 1998.
Here are some anecdotes and “false friends” in Italian.
1) “Tous les corps d’état” was translated by a so-called professional translator as “tutti I corpi delle Stato” (all the bodies of the State) whilst the correct translation is “tutti i settori di attività” (all sectors of activity).
2) “Handling” in Italian is “Movimentazione”. This was translated by “manutenzione” (maintenance), which is something else entirely.
3) For the term “Minchie” (a Breton salad, a mixture of different vegetables), it is necessary to turn the words round to explain that it is really a salad (insalata mista), otherwise the term “minchie” is used to described a man’s genitals in Sicilian (a very rude term).
